Bio

Rick Levine, president of ICEBOX Music, is a guitarist, singer/songwriter, storyteller and music industry professional, and professional speaker writing, performing and living all aspects of music for over 25 years.

Rick’s career in music started on the Jersey Shore in the mid eighties with a stint as Promotions Director, Account Executive and DJ for WHTG AM/FM, a station broadcasting to the Manhattan market. After moving to Toronto from New York in the early 1990’s, Rick started performing as a solo artist at some of the famed downtown nightspots including The Free Times Café and Grossman’s Tavern.

Once in Toronto, Levine became a pioneer on the first Canadian Internet radio station, creating, scripting, booking guests, producing, promoting and hosting the Internet entertainment program, “Ricko Talks to the World.”

In 1998, he formed the acoustic guitar based band, Fridge Magnets. Over 12 years they have given nearly 300 performances including the Canadian Film Centre, the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg and Breakfast Television. As well, they performed in every Chapters and Indigo Bookstore around the Golden Horseshoe.

By 2000, the group needed a solid business foundation so Levine established ICEBOX Music.

Through the bands CD releases, Rick handled music production, bookings, artist management, contract negotiations, CD release concerts, promotion, public relations, marketing, radio tracking, merchandising and publishing. He negotiated exclusive CD distribution with GTA Chapters/Indigo stores. Radio and other airplay for the CDs included EZRock radio stations in Ontario, CBC Metro Morning with Andy Barrie, and Air Canada’s “In Flight Entertainment.”

In 2005, ICEBOX added publishing division, acquiring and marketing music catalogues of Canadian indie artists and publishers for worldwide music licensing in all forms of media, collaborating with music supervisors, film and TV producers, production and post-production houses on three continents for music placement. Projects with ICEBOX licensed songs include TV shows Life With Derek, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Rent-a-Goalie; TV Movie of the Week for Lifetime – Fat Like Me; TV commercial for Campbell’s Soup.

In 2008, growth continued by including a special events production division to provide event management services to live events. Events include Parliamentary receptions in Ottawa, IMPACT National Convention on Entrepreneurship, Mobilicity Cellular Phone service and retail outlet launch, Strut for the Cure fashion show fundraiser and The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s MS Walk.

Currently, Levine is presenting ICEBOX Music’s Music Entrepreneur Seminar Series on “Making Money with Music” showing indie musicians how to overcome the financial and management challenges facing musicians on their career journey.
